White Mulberry is a plant that is native to China. In an attempt to establish the silk industry, it was introduced to the United States during the colonial times. Since then, the popularity surrounding its’ healing properties have been on the rise. White Mulberry is primarily used to help treat diabetes.

    Some chemicals, which are found in White Mulberry, have been found to be quite similar to medications used for type 2 diabetes. They slow the breakdown of sugars in the body so that they can be absorbed at a lower rate, thus keeping blood sugar at a desirable level.

  • Side Effects:

    People with nasobronchial allergies could have a reaction to the pollen extract. A study has shown that side effects may include mild diarrhea, dizziness, constipation and bloating.

    Risk Information/Interactions:

    White Mulberry has properties which lower blood sugar levels. Therefore, it should be used very cautiously with other medications that lower blood sugar levels (i.e. insulin). This supplement may also increase the side effects of cholesterol-lowering medications. White Mulberry should be used cautiously in conjunction with benzodiazepines, barbiturates and antidepressants. There is a possibility that White Mulberry could interact with medications used for treat gout.
